Crazy plant with awesome flower
Near the end of my ride today on a trail I travel often I came across a plant I am sure I had seen many times before but never in bloom. I forget about how amazing some of the chaparral and desert plants can be.
It amazed me how much it looked like those soft rubber spikey balls that feel good in your hand. The flowers spines were soft but sturdy just like that. So cool.

Amazing aren’t they? I nearly fell off my bike trying to stop suddenly to get a closer look.
My son wants to do a science paper on this cool looking plant in the photo. Does any one know the Genus and species so I can help him reserarch it? It was refered to as Chaparral, but that seems to be more of the name of the region. Thanks.
