share-button

Seriously though, let’s make a “SHARE” button (or not?)

My previous post about too many things to like and share was sitting as a draft for so long (a few months ;) that by the time I got around to finishing it Google had released this +1 business and Buzz was no longer just some strange relative that scares the kids at family gatherings but part of a real Google social networking deal. But for all my kidding around, why isn't there a single "SHARE" button I can put on my website? | read on »

Getting back to work

As many of you are already aware I’ve been “away from the office” for several weeks. However, this week I will be returning to my desk with a sort of renewed vigor, if somewhat limited schedule. Several people have been in need of work and wrapping up older projects. I will be attending all these items this week as well as actually finally updating the Additional Image Sizes (zui) WordPress plugin and the Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base plugin (officially tagged version 0.1 and getting it posted on WordPress.org). Also over the next two weeks I am going to be more[...] | read on »

Spam is lame and people are finally talking about it

I wrote an article a couple of years ago (reposted on this blog here) about how spammers are ruining the internet. Not just the email spammers but even more so the people who put up websites for the sole purpose of sucking in paid clicks or building false popularity to game the search bot algorithm’s. I rant about topics like this fairly often in every day life and I think I often bore friends and colleagues with my prattle. So I always feel vindicated when my “fringe” concerns become more mainstream and begin getting a wider discussion. I just was just[...] | read on »

For the sake of the internet and capitalism…learn how to use your computer

This is re-post of an article I wrote over at CoTradeCo a couple of years ago but because of my next post I thought to re-post it here. I am a Libertarian, a capitalist, a free thinking idealist, and have a lingering fear that I suffer from the Dunning-Kruger effect. While on a personal level I do not consider myself an expert at computers, compared to most internet users I might as well be a computer science major. People often turn to me for advice on how to use their computers. When they do I feel obliged to assist because[...] | read on »

Looking for “LTR” with designers and client/project managers

I am in middle of restructuring my professional services to focus entirely on PSD to CSS (design to markup/template conversion) services and new site and plugin development for WordPress. I want to stop doing design work altogether and ultimately have a handful of incredible designers capable of high quality fast turn around and/or mindblowing quality and concepts  at reasonable rates who can help me push the limits of WordPress development in particular. My goal is to become a WordPress “rockstar” providing services for smaller companies and organizations especially those with some concept of values and ethics that enables a more sustainable[...] | read on »

Additional Image Sizes (zui) WordPress Plugin version 0.1.5

Last night I posted a much improved version of the Additional Image Sizes (zui) WordPress plugin version 0.1.5.  Also available on github in plugin form or as an included appliance in the Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base platform/framework development plugin for WordPress. Most notably… forms save their values added a link to continue processing in the message output log added the ability to simulate the resize so you can see what will happen before you do it added the ability to replace predefined WordPress sizes instead of adding new images (when Settings > Media sizes change) and added the ability to[...] | read on »

New WordPress plugin “Additional Image Sizes (zui)”

We’ve all been there. You need a special size of image for your WordPress install. Maybe it’s a unique dimension for a slideshow. Maybe you have multiple featured posts with thumbnails section that use different sizes of thumbnails. Whatever your reason, instead of letting WordPress load the larger image and downsize it on the fly you can use the “new” WordPress plugin “Addtional Image Sizes (zui)” to create the new image sizes and make copies of and resize all the images you’ve already uploaded so they all have the new size. Get the source code for Additional Image Sizes (zui)[...] | read on »

Twenty Eleven demo theme up for Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base WordPress plugin

UPDATE: Seeing that the 3.2 WordPress update actually included a new default theme called twenty eleven this tongue-in-cheek demo of KST via a completely redone version of “twenty ten” called twenty eleven is kind of moot. So a new KST demo theme will be built. Check out the new demo site currently showing the Twenty Eleven demo theme we were developing Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base with. The demo blog includes the Theme Unit Tests from the the WordPress.org theme review team as well as posts demonstrating and discussing some of the various features of Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base.

Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base development plugin for WordPress almost “done”

Well this is the first time I’ve really mentioned Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base anywhere except to friends and whoever might have stumbled onto the source code and wiki at github. But I’ve created a development “platform”, you might also call a “framework”, for developing and enhancing WordPress theme and plugin development. It’s called Kitchen Sink HTML5 Base. So named because is indeed full blown HTML5 madness born out of HTML5 Boilerplate, but most important is the BASE part of the name. I am still relatively new to WordPress development but once I got past some the hoops and idiosyncrasies of WordPress development[...] | read on »

True capitalist hero: John Nese and Galcos Soda Pop Stop

Galcos Soda Pop Stop in Los Angeles (http://www.sodapopstop.com/) demonstrates not only the importance of small business but how small business can work together to compete against giant corporations. People like John Nese represent what is good about capitalism and how we can maintain the integrity of local communities while participating in a global marketplace. His passion for soda and “doing the right thing” is commendable translating into a phenomenal business and community service. I was truly impressed with the clarity of his vision: “My thought had always been, that I wanted to do, was do business with other businesses my[...] | read on »
